Ignacio Montojo

Director

Ignacio specializes in the design and implementation of public-private partnerships and financing strategies for infrastructure, real estate, and economic development projects globally. His portfolio includes expansive engagements on behalf of private developers and investors, as well as governments and development banks.

 

In Latin America and the Caribbean, he has recently managed planning of transit-oriented development projects and financing strategies for transportation and open space projects on behalf of the Inter-American Development Bank in Costa Rica and Metro de Medellin and the World Bank in Colombia. He has also designed innovative business models for the creation of broadband infrastructure networks in Colombia on behalf of Ruta N. In Suriname, he is supporting the creation of a revolving fund for preservation of historic properties on behalf of the Government of Suriname. His thought leadership around land value capture in the region has led to significant advancements in its regulation and adaption in countries like Colombia. He has also managed urban regeneration strategies around obsolete and underutilized public assets in South Africa and Bangladesh on behalf of the World Bank.

In the United States, he has advised transit agencies like the MTA and GoTriangle, and real estate developers like Seritage and iStar, on economic and fiscal impact assessments of capital projects and crafted public-private transactions on their behalf. At HR&A, he also supports the development of advanced quantitative tools and models to support the financial and econometric analyses of the firm. He is also a guest lecturer in real estate at the Stuart Weitzman School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania and the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University.

Prior to joining HR&A, Ignacio worked for Hotusa Hotels in Barcelona, where he supported the renovation and opening of new hotels in Europe and Latin America. Ignacio holds a master’s degree in Real Estate Development from Columbia University and obtained the 1st Thesis Award for his global comparative REIT study. He also holds a master’s degree in Finance. Previously, he obtained a Degree in Architecture from UPC BarcelonaTech. He is an active member of the Urban Land Institute and Young Professionals in Infrastructure.
